  • 1 balloon balloon any color
  • 1 bottle small plastic bottle empty water bottle works well
  • 2-3 tablespoons baking soda the star of the reaction
  • 0.5 cup vinegar can add food coloring or glitter for fun effect
  • Food coloring or glitter optional, adds magical touch to fizzing reaction
  • Small funnel or paper cone optional, makes pouring baking soda mess-free

Method
 

  1. Step 1: Insert the funnel or paper cone into the mouth of the balloon.
  2. Step 2: Carefully pour 2–3 tablespoons of baking soda into the balloon using the funnel. Set the balloon aside gently to avoid spilling any powder.
  3. Step 3: Pour ½ cup of vinegar into the small plastic bottle. Add a few drops of food coloring or some glitter if desired for extra fun.
  4. Step 4: Stretch the open end of the balloon over the mouth of the bottle, making sure it’s snug and tight to trap the gas.
  5. Step 5: Keep the balloon hanging down so the baking soda stays inside and does not mix with vinegar yet.
  6. Step 6: When ready, lift the balloon upright to let baking soda fall into the vinegar.
  7. Step 7: Step back quickly and watch the fizzing reaction inflate your balloon—a fun and magical science moment!

Notes

This experiment is best done fresh each time as the chemical reaction occurs once. Store baking soda and vinegar separately in their original containers. Use bigger balloons or alternative vinegars cautiously and always supervise children during the activity.
