Method
- Step 1: Cook shoestring French fries according to package directions in an air fryer or oven until golden and crisp. Set aside.
- Step 2: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
- Step 3: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and diced onion until the meat is fully cooked through and the onion is softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30-45 seconds until fragrant. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Drain any excess fat.
- Step 4: Stir in the can of cream of mushroom soup and the can of cheddar cheese soup with the beef mixture. Mix until everything is beautifully combined and the beef is coated in the creamy sauce.
- Step 5: Transfer the beef and soup mixture into a 7x11 inch casserole dish and spread it out evenly. Layer the crispy French fries on top, then sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
- Step 6: Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted, bubbly, and golden.
- Step 7: While the casserole bakes, prepare the burger sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, dehydrated onions, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.
- Step 8: Once the Cheeseburger French Fry Bake comes out of the oven, hot and bubbly, drizzle the burger sauce generously over the top just before serving.
Notes
Substitutions & Additions: Try Monterey Jack, Colby, or Pepper Jack cheese. Sauté finely diced bell peppers or mushrooms with the onion. Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce for spice. Sprinkle crispy bacon bits on top or mix into the beef. Add chopped dill pickles on top. Crinkle-cut or waffle fries can be used, adjust cooking time as needed.
Tips for Success: Ensure fries are truly crispy in step 1 to avoid sogginess. Don't overcook the minced garlic; add it towards the end of browning the beef and cook for 30-45 seconds. Always drain excess fat from the ground beef for a non-greasy casserole. Season the beef mixture generously and taste as you go. For a make-ahead option, prepare the beef and soup mixture a day ahead and store in the fridge; top with fresh fries and cheese before baking. Lightly warming the burger sauce in the microwave can make it easier to drizzle.
Storage: Once completely cooled, cover the casserole dish tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or transfer individual portions to airtight containers. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 300°F (150°C) or microwave individual servings. You can freeze the cooked beef and soup mixture (before adding fries and cheese); thaw, then top with fresh fries and cheese and bake.
