Ingredients

Supplies
  • Black construction paper for turtle outline
  • Wax paper or plastic sheet base for glue and color drying
  • Clear glue creates glass-like effect
  • Food coloring or liquid watercolors for vibrant colors
  • Glitter or sequins (optional) adds sparkle
  • Paintbrush or dropper for applying glue and colors

Equipment

  • Black construction paper
  • Wax paper or plastic sheet
  • Paintbrush or dropper

Method

  1. Step 1: Draw a simple turtle outline on black construction paper and carefully cut it out to create your template.
  2. Step 2: Lay wax paper or plastic sheet flat and place the turtle template underneath it so the outline is visible.
  3. Step 3: Using a paintbrush or dropper, apply clear glue generously but evenly over the turtle’s outline on the wax paper.
  4. Step 4: Drop small amounts of food coloring or liquid watercolors onto the wet glue; swirl or blend colors as desired.
  5. Step 5: (Optional) Sprinkle glitter or sequins onto the wet glue for extra sparkle.
  6. Step 6: Let the suncatcher dry completely for several hours or overnight until firm and no longer tacky.
  7. Step 7: Carefully peel the dried suncatcher off the wax paper and hang it in a sunny window to enjoy the colorful light.

Notes

Be patient with drying to avoid cracking. Work in a well-ventilated area. Store finished suncatchers flat between wax paper sheets to prevent sticking and warping. Substitute cardstock or cardboard for a sturdier outline or experiment with different shapes and colors for unique designs.
