Method
- Step 1: Marinate Chicken: Place the chicken breasts in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Step 2: Prepare the Coating: In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Step 3: Dredge the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and let any excess drip off. Dredge each chicken breast in the flour mixture.
- Step 4: Heat Oil: In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Step 5: Fry the Chicken: Carefully add the coated chicken breasts to the hot oil. Fry for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- Step 6: Assemble the Sandwich: Toast the hamburger buns lightly. Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun, then top with lettuce, a fried chicken breast, tomato slices, and pickles.
- Step 7: Serve: Enjoy your crispy chicken sandwiches hot!
Notes
If you have leftovers, store the components separately. Place the chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat the chicken in the oven to maintain its crispiness!
