Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80% lean
  • 2 tbsp teriyaki sauce
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs plain or seasoned
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 Burger buns

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Skillet
  • Grill (optional)
  • Tongs or Spatula

Method

  1. Step 1: Mix everything up: Grab a big bowl. Toss in the ground beef, teriyaki sauce, Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to get everything evenly combined without overmixing. Mix gently until all the ingredients are just incorporated.
  2. Step 2: Shape the patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick. Make them slightly wider than your buns, because they'll shrink a little as they cook. A little divot in the center of each patty helps them cook more evenly.
  3. Step 3: Cook 'em up: Heat up your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place the patties on the cooking surface. Let them cook for about 4–5 minutes per side until a nice sear forms and the internal temperature reaches a safe 160°F (71°C). Do not press down on the patties while they're cooking.
  4. Step 4: Toast the buns: While the burgers are finishing up or just after you take them off, quickly toast your burger buns. You can do this on the grill grates, in the hot skillet, or even in a toaster. Just a minute or two until they're lightly golden and warm.
  5. Step 5: Assemble and serve: Place a cooked patty on a toasted bun bottom. Add your favorite toppings, place the top bun on, and serve 'em hot!

Notes

To make them gluten-free, use gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers. To make it low-carb, serve the patty in a lettuce wrap or over rice. You can substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for ground beef. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the mix for a little heat. Great toppings include grilled pineapple slices, crispy bacon, sautéed onions, or extra teriyaki sauce.
