Course: Dessert
Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

For the Coffee Mixture
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee cooled
  • 1 tbsp coffee liqueur optional
For the Cream Mixture
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 package ladyfinger cookies savoiardi
  • unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting
  • dark chocolate shavings optional, for garnish

Equipment

  • Shallow Dish
  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Plastic wrap
  • Serving Cups or Bowls

Method

  1. Step 1: In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using). Set aside to cool completely.
  2. Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add the mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Continue to whip until well combined and smooth.
  3. Step 3: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them. They should be moist but not falling apart.
  4. Step 4: In serving cups or bowls, place a layer of the dipped ladyfingers at the bottom. Spoon a layer of the mascarpone cream mixture on top. Repeat the layers until the cups are filled, finishing with a layer of the cream mixture on top.
  5. Step 5: Cover the cups with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
  6. Step 6: Before serving, dust the tops with unsweetened cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

These delightful cups can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Just make sure they're covered tightly with plastic wrap or a lid to keep them fresh.
