  • 2 cups all-purpose flour This is the base of your batter.
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar Just a hint of sweetness!
  • 1 tsp baking powder Helps it puff up nicely.
  • 1/2 tsp salt Balances the sweetness beautifully.
  • 2 large eggs Makes the batter rich and fluffy.
  • 1.5 cups milk For that perfect consistency.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Adds a lovely flavor.
For Frying
  • Oil Vegetable oil for frying.
  • Powdered sugar For dusting.

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Deep Fryer or Large Pot
  • Slotted spoon

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Step 2: In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix them together until smooth.
  3. Step 3: Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined. The batter should be smooth but slightly thick.
  4. Step 4: Heat the oil in a deep fryer or a large pot over medium heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).
  5. Step 5: Pour the batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle. If using a funnel, cover the hole with your finger to control the flow.
  6. Step 6: Drizzle the batter into the hot oil in a spiral or lattice pattern, starting from the center and working your way outward.
  7. Step 7: Fry the funnel cake for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until it turns golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to carefully flip it halfway through cooking.
  8. Step 8: Remove the funnel cake from the oil and let it drain on paper towels.
  9. Step 9: Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy it warm!

Notes

If you want to switch things up, try adding a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter for a warm spice flavor.
