Ingredients

For the Sloppy Joe Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef the star of the show, tender and juicy
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup ketchup for that classic sloppy joe flavor
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce a touch of umami goodness
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar balances out the tanginess
  • 1 tsp mustard a little zing to elevate the taste
For the Garlic Toast
  • 4 slices thick-cut bread the perfect base for our creation
  • 4 tbsp butter softened, for that rich, buttery toast
  • 2 cloves garlic minced, for garlic toast
For Garnish
  • to taste fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Baking Sheet
  • Small Bowl

Method

  1. Step 1: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Step 2: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion turns translucent and fragrant.
  3. Step 3: Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Let this simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to blend those flavors.
  4. Step 4: While the mixture simmers, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  5. Step 5: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter and minced garlic. Spread this mixture generously on one side of each slice of bread.
  6. Step 6: Place the bread slices on a baking sheet, buttered side up, and toast them in the oven for 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
  7. Step 7: Remove the bread from the oven and spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously over each slice. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave, but the toast might lose some crispiness.
