Course: Cocktail, Drinks, Fall
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 4 oz Apple Cider Use good quality, fresh apple cider for the best flavor.
  • 2 oz Dark Rum Think of a rich, molasses-y dark rum to really complement the apple.
  • 1 oz Blackberry Liqueur gives a beautiful deep, dark hue and a wonderful berry sweetness
  • 1/2 oz Fresh Lemon Juice brightens everything up and balances the sweetness
  • Ice For shaking and serving
  • Blackberries for garnish
  • Cinnamon Stick for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Serving Glass

Method

  1. Step 1: Combine Your Ingredients: Grab your favorite cocktail shaker and fill it with ice. Then, pour in the apple cider, dark rum, blackberry liqueur, and fresh lemon juice.
  2. Step 2: Shake It Up: Secure the lid tightly and shake everything together really well. You want it to be thoroughly chilled, so give it a good 15-20 second vigorous shake until the outside of the shaker gets frosty.
  3. Step 3: Strain and Serve: Fill your serving glass with fresh ice. Strain the mixture from the shaker into your ice-filled glass.
  4. Step 4: Garnish with Flair: Gently drop a few fresh blackberries into the drink. Tuck in a cinnamon stick for that extra touch of fall aroma and charm.
  5. Step 5: Enjoy Immediately: This drink is best enjoyed right away.

Notes

Substitutions & Additions: Try spiced rum or bourbon instead of dark rum. For blackberry liqueur, raspberry liqueur, cassis, or pomegranate liqueur work well. For a non-alcoholic version, omit the alcohol and use blackberry syrup with a dash of non-alcoholic vanilla extract or extra lemon juice. Add a tiny pinch of ground cinnamon, allspice, or muddle a thin slice of fresh ginger for extra spice. For a spooky rim, moisten the glass rim with lemon and dip in black sanding sugar or edible black glitter.
Tips for Success: Start with chilled apple cider and rum for extra coldness without dilution. Always use fresh lemon juice for vibrant flavor. Adjust ratios to taste for sweetness or tartness. For parties, you can mix the apple cider, rum, and blackberry liqueur ahead of time and store in the fridge for 2-3 days; add lemon juice and shake with ice just before serving. Use a clear or stemless wine glass to showcase the drink's dark color.
Storage: This drink is best enjoyed fresh. If you prepare the mixed base (cider, rum, liqueur without lemon/ice) ahead, it can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Any leftover prepared drinks should be discarded as they will lose their chill and become diluted quickly.
