Method
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 12-cup muffin pan generously to prevent sticking.
- Step 2: On a floured surface, roll pizza dough into a 12" x 10" rectangle. Use a light dusting of flour to avoid tearing. Let dough rest if needed.
- Step 3: Spread an even layer of pizza sauce over the dough, leaving about a ½-inch border all around.
- Step 4: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce-covered dough.
- Step 5: Arrange pepperoni slices overlapping slightly along the long edge of the dough closest to you.
- Step 6: Carefully roll the dough tightly starting from the pepperoni side. Slice the roll into 12 equal pieces using a sharp knife or pizza cutter.
- Step 7: Pinch the top of each slice inward gently to form a heart shape. Place each slice into the prepared muffin pan cups, spaced evenly.
- Step 8: Sprinkle dried oregano over the tops of the pizza roses.
- Step 9: Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and cheese is bubbling. Watch carefully in the last minutes to avoid over-browning.
- Step 10: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Notes
These pizza roses make adorable gifts when wrapped with ribbon. Customize with different cheeses, meats, or veggies. Store leftovers in an airtight container: up to 2 hours at room temp, 3 days refrigerated, or freeze individually for longer storage.
