- Step 1: In a large, festive punch bowl (or a big pitcher), pour in your black cherry juice (or cranberry-blackberry) and the pomegranate juice. Add the vanilla extract and give it a good stir.
- Step 2: Sprinkle in the ground cinnamon and cloves. Stir thoroughly until the spices are well blended into the juices. Taste it at this point – if you prefer it a little sweeter, stir in 1-2 tablespoons of simple syrup or honey now.
- Step 3: Just before you're ready to serve, gently pour in the sparkling water and ginger ale. Give it the barest minimum of stirs to combine, just enough to mix, but don't overdo it to preserve carbonation.
- Step 4: Float fresh blackberries, cranberries, or pomegranate seeds on top. Arrange vibrant orange slices around the bowl.
- Step 5: Finish it off by tucking in a few star anise pods or cinnamon sticks, and nestle in some fresh rosemary sprigs.
Notes
Tips for Success: For the best results, chill all liquid ingredients before mixing. Add sparkling water and ginger ale just before serving to preserve the fizz. Consider making an ice ring with cranberries, orange slices, and rosemary sprigs to keep the punch cold without dilution. You can mix the non-carbonated juice base (black cherry, pomegranate, vanilla, cinnamon, cloves) up to 2 days in advance; add sparkling elements and garnishes just before serving.
Storage: Store any leftover punch in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days. The carbonation will diminish over time, but the flavors remain delicious. For optimal fizz, store non-carbonated base separately if possible.
Variations: Experiment with different juice combinations like pure cranberry or grape. For adults, add 1-2 cups of dark rum, vodka, or a spiced liqueur to the base before adding carbonated mixers.
