- Step 1: Pour the vegetable oil into the clear glass jar. You should see the oil settle at the top.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, mix the water with food coloring, stirring until well combined. Feel free to use as many colors as you like!
- Step 3: Carefully pour the colored water into the jar with the oil. Watch as the water sinks and creates delightful bubbles.
- Step 4: In a small bowl, combine the baking soda and salt. This mixture is key to the fireworks effect!
- Step 5: Sprinkle the baking soda and salt mixture into the jar. You will start to see fizzing right away.
- Step 6: Slowly add vinegar to the jar and stand back. The reaction will create a beautiful, colorful fireworks display inside your jar!
- Step 7: Enjoy the sparkling display for as long as it lasts. It’s mesmerizing!
Notes
This project is best enjoyed fresh, but if you want to store it, keep it in a cool, dark place. The reaction will eventually settle down, but you can always add more vinegar to reactivate the fizz!
