Ingredients

  • 2 cups orange soda chilled
  • 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream store-bought or homemade
  • Halloween sprinkles
  • Candy corn
  • corn syrup or thin layer of frosting optional, for rimming cups
  • Black jack-o-lantern face stickers or cups optional, for presentation

Equipment

  • Clear Cups or clear glass tumblers/mugs
  • Shallow Dish for rimming
  • Straws optional

Method

  1. Step 1: Get festive cups ready. If decorating the rim, pour a little corn syrup or a thin layer of frosting onto a shallow dish, and Halloween sprinkles onto another. Dip the rim of each clear cup into the syrup/frosting, then immediately into the sprinkles, giving it a twist to coat evenly.
  2. Step 2: Add ice cream. Carefully drop two generous scoops of vanilla ice cream into each prepared cup.
  3. Step 3: Pour soda. Slowly pour the chilled orange soda over the ice cream, preventing an overflow of fizz.
  4. Step 4: Top and serve. Finish each float with a big swirl of whipped cream, a generous amount of Halloween sprinkles, and a few pieces of candy corn. If using, add jack-o-lantern stickers to your cups. Add a fun straw and serve immediately.

Notes

Substitutions & Additions: Try cream soda, ginger ale, or grape soda instead of orange soda. For ice cream, pumpkin spice, butter pecan, or caramel are great alternatives. Drizzle with caramel sauce or chocolate syrup, add crushed gingersnap cookies, edible glitter, or mini chocolate chips. For adults, add a splash of spiced rum or vanilla vodka.
Tips for Success: Always use very cold soda. Pour slowly to control foam. Clear glasses are best to show off layers. Floats are best made fresh, but you can decorate cups ahead of time or chill glasses in the freezer.
Storage: Pumpkin Floats do not store well once assembled. Enjoy immediately. Store ingredients separately in their appropriate places.
