Ingredients

For the Lemon Jam
  • 4 large lemons fresh and zesty
  • 4 cups granulated sugar to balance the tartness of the lemons
  • 1 cup water essential for cooking the jam
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice adds extra lemon flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract optional, elevates the taste

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Sterilized Jars

Method

  1. Step 1: Start by washing the lemons thoroughly. Cut them into quarters and remove any seeds.
  2. Step 2: In a large pot, combine the lemon quarters, sugar, and water. Stir well to ensure the sugar starts dissolving.
  3. Step 3: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Step 4: Add in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and vanilla extract, if using. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Remove the pot from heat and let it cool slightly. Transfer the jam to sterilized jars and seal them tightly.
  6. Step 6: Allow the jam to cool completely at room temperature before refrigerating.

Notes

To store your lemon jam, keep it in the fridge where it can last for up to a month. For longer storage, consider canning it following safe canning practices.
