- Step 1: Season salmon fillets generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Step 2: Heat a large skillet with olive oil over medium-high heat. Carefully place seasoned salmon fillets into the skillet. Sear for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and starting to cook through. Gently remove the salmon from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
- Step 3: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium-low. Pour in honey, pineapple juice, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Whisk to combine. Let it simmer gently, stirring occasionally, until it thickens into a glossy glaze (about 3-4 minutes).
- Step 4: Toss in the diced fresh pineapple into the glaze. Stir and let cook for just a couple of minutes, allowing the pineapple to warm through and soak up the sauce.
- Step 5: Gently nestle the seared salmon fillets back into the skillet with the pineapple glaze. Spoon the honey-pineapple sauce over the top of each fillet, ensuring they are beautifully coated. Let it mingle for just another minute or two until the salmon is perfectly heated through and shimmering with glaze.
- Step 6: Carefully transfer the Honey Pineapple Salmon to individual plates. Sprinkle generously with chopped green onions and a dusting of sesame seeds. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
Notes
Substitutions & Additions: This glaze works well with chicken breasts/thighs, cod, tilapia, or shrimp. For extra veggies, add broccoli florets, bell pepper strips, or snap peas to the skillet with the pineapple in Step 4. If using canned pineapple, drain it well and use the juice from the can. For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce in Step 3. A squeeze of fresh lime juice at the end can brighten flavors.
Tips for Success: Avoid overcooking salmon; it's done when it flakes easily. Fresh grated ginger provides the best flavor. Allow the sauce to simmer and thicken for a glossy glaze. Always pat salmon fillets dry before searing for a golden crust. You can whisk sauce ingredients ahead of time and store them in the fridge for up to 2-3 days.
Storage & Reheating: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat gently in a skillet over low heat with a tiny splash of water or broth, or in the microwave, being careful not to overcook.
