Method
- Step 1: Put on gloves and slice the jalapeño peppers into rings, removing the stems and seeds if you prefer a milder flavor.
- Step 2: In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, distilled white vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, turmeric, cumin, smoked paprika, black pepper, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt.
- Step 3: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Step 4: Once the syrup is boiling, toss in the sliced jalapeños. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, letting the peppers soften slightly.
- Step 5: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool. After it cools, transfer the jalapeños and syrup into clean, sterilized jars, ensuring the peppers are fully submerged in the syrup.
- Step 6: Seal the jars and pop them in the fridge. The Texas cowboy candy will be ready to enjoy after about 24 hours.
Notes
Letting it sit for a few days in the fridge really enhances the flavors, so try to be patient. Store in the refrigerator for up to a month.
