Ingredients

  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough 16.3-oz, flaky or homestyle
  • 8 caramel candies soft, chewy, individually wrapped
  • 3 tbsp butter 1 tbsp for apples, 2 tbsp melted for brushing
  • 2 apples finely chopped; Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or your favorite
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • caramel sauce for topping, store-bought
  • crushed peanuts for topping, optional other nuts like pecans or walnuts

Equipment

  • Medium Baking Dish
  • Medium skillet

Method

  1. Step 1: Get Your Oven Ready: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a medium baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Step 2: Sauté Those Apples: In a medium skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add finely chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Step 3: Prep the Biscuits: Separate each biscuit from the can. Gently stretch each biscuit out a bit to make it slightly larger and thinner.
  4. Step 4: Fill 'Em Up: Place about 1 tablespoon of the cooled apple filling in the center of each stretched-out biscuit. Nestlé one soft caramel candy on top of the apple mixture.
  5. Step 5: Seal the Deal: Carefully gather all the edges of the biscuit dough over the filling. Pinch them together firmly at the top to completely enclose the apples and caramel, forming a neat ball. Gently roll between your palms to smooth seams.
  6. Step 6: Arrange and Brush: Place the formed Apple Caramel Bombs into your greased baking dish, ensuring they have a little space between them. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and brush it generously over the tops of all the bombs.
  7. Step 7: Bake to Golden Perfection: Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until gloriously golden brown and puffed up.
  8. Step 8: Garnish and Serve: Transfer warm bombs to a serving platter. Drizzle generously with extra caramel sauce and sprinkle with crushed peanuts. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don't overfill, seal tightly, and ensure the apple filling is cool before assembly to prevent leaks. Serve these bombs warm for the best gooey experience, perhaps à la mode with vanilla ice cream or a dollop of fresh whipped cream. Feel free to experiment with other fruits like pears or peaches, different candies like chocolate or marshmallows, or swap peanuts for pecans, walnuts, or crushed pretzels. For a flakier texture, crescent roll dough can be used instead of biscuits. Store at room temperature for up to 1 day or refrigerate for 3-4 days in an airtight container. Reheat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or in a preheated oven (300°F/150°C) for 5-10 minutes until warmed through.
