- Step 1: Rim the Glass. Pour a shallow amount of apple juice onto a small plate, and an equal amount of black sanding sugar onto another plate. Dip the rim of your chosen glass (a stemless wine glass or tumbler works well) into the apple juice, then immediately dip it into the black sugar, twisting gently to create an even, glittering rim.
- Step 2: Add Ice. Fill your beautifully rimmed glass about two-thirds full with ice cubes to ensure your brew is perfectly chilled.
- Step 3: Pour the Brew. Carefully pour in 3 ounces of grape juice, followed by 1 ounce of vodka. Give it a gentle stir with a spoon or cocktail stirrer to combine the flavors without disturbing the sugar rim.
- Step 4: Garnish. Thread a few green gummy candies onto a small skewer and perch it on the rim of your glass, or let them dive into the drink. Add a vibrant kiwi slice to the side of the glass. Serve immediately and enjoy your enchanting Witches' Brew!
Notes
Substitutions & Additions: Not a fan of grape juice? Try cranberry for a blood-red potion, or blueberry and cherry for a darker, fruitier blend. For a bubbly touch, use sparkling grape juice. For alcohol, a shot of dark rum can add a mysterious note. For a kid-friendly version, omit vodka or use sparkling water/cider. Fun garnishes include lychee with blueberries for 'eyeballs', dry ice for a smoky effect (handle with care!), fresh mint, lime wheels, or edible glitter. If black sugar is unavailable, use purple or green sanding sugar, or cinnamon sugar.
Tips for Success: Ensure grape juice and vodka are well-chilled to prevent dilution. Stir gently to protect the sugar rim. For parties, pre-mix liquids in a pitcher, adding ice and garnishes to individual glasses just before serving. Practice rimming for an even coating. Use Halloween-themed glasses or a punch bowl with dry ice for dramatic presentation.
Storage: The mixed drink (without ice and garnish) can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Individual servings with ice and garnishes are best enjoyed immediately to prevent dilution and soggy gummies. For the freshest taste, store ingredients separately and prepare garnishes just before serving.
